Project Name: Promote Migrants Rights through Supportive Information
Project Duration: October 2015 to May-2016
Funding organization: BRAC & Japan Social Development Fund .

Project Goal:
Door step or nearby Information dissemination system would be established in each union level by developing Information officer to disseminate Migrants assistance supportive information.

Project Purpose:
1. Provide information about safe migration
2. Take initiative for safe migration
3. Provide video call / telephonic call
4. Create a database of migrants, potential migrants and returnee migrants.
5. Take initiative for behavioral change of the migrant’s family / proper management of remittance.
6. Visa Checking
7. On-line passport services

Project Output:

More specifically:

1. 07 No of Information Officer are developed from migrants family members and ready to serve.
2. 07 no of Information officer has become business entrepreneurs
3. 07 no of union based information hub are established and functioning.
4. At least 8400 including 5937 numbers of direct beneficiaries (Migrants, Potential migrant’s workers, Migrants workers family & Union information officer) are resourceful with necessary information and safe from abuse contributing to safe migration.
5. At least 5900 migrants or potential migrants are received direct service through Information Officer.

Project working areas:
Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong district which consists of 325712 is approximately 60 km from the Chittagong city. It is a semi hilly & semi coast upazilla like the hills range on the northern and eastern side of this upazila along the bank of the Bay of Bangle & Feni river extended up to Chittagong and the Chittagong hill tracts which makes the upazila is under developed and poverty ridden. As a semi coast & hillock upazila Mirsharai is unfavorable for agriculture based economy and there Climate Change vulnerabilities also exist for which the upazila is migration prone in Chittagong district. Among 16 union parishads, 07 union parishads are more migration prone in the upazila. According to the upazila administration, following are the salient feature of the migrant’s scenario of the ten union parishads of Mirsharai Upazila.

Hinguli Union Parisad, Jorargonj Union Parisad, Khaiyachhara Union Parishad, Mayani Union Parishad, Haithkandi Union Parisad, Saherkhali Union Parishad, Wahedpur Union Parishad

Beneficiary/Stakeholder:

They are the main key agent to bridging between service recipients (Migrants people/potential migrants and their family members) & service providers and duty bearers including Go, Ngo and private sectors. They will also use the existing facilities of union information center for making the benefits of the migrants. Their activities would be but not limited to

All the migrants would be capacitating with necessary capacity building training. Newly migrant workers would be linked with local MFIs for necessary financial assistance for passport, visa, travel arrangement etc. The organization will ensure safe remittance transfer using local money transfer agents to the migrant workers family. It will also work for safe investment of remittance through capacity building of migrant workers family members and investment plan.
