1 Presentation of VFL survey findings A workshop is conducted on 06 September 2019 at Pramasiya village, Khankhanabad Union under Banchkhali Upazilla with respective community where as Union/city corporation ward level local elected members, teachers, journalist, CBO representatives, youth organizations representatives are participated into the event.

 

After inauguration of the workshop session the theme song is played with videography where as it given support to get in the issue discussion easily.

 

Addressing the issue last findings was present in front of the audiences and reviewed with them of definition of Disaster, different kinds of disaster and disaster management. Overview of the findings most of the participants agreed with the consequences.

 

2 Discussion of Validate findings Findings are varied according to geographical context.

 

As sharing the findings of natural disaster most of the participants are agreed the issues of cyclone. Once cyclone could be happened for 1 time in a year but now a day they are facing the disaster several times in a year. All over the year facing natural depression are common scenarios for the community. They relate the consequence with climate change.  Making understanding about Climate change they don’t have well information but they frequently listen about climate change.

 

No social/men made disaster the participants are found into their locality. Only single house affected by fire as some times. They did not recognize the act as disaster.

3 Reflection & Feedback from community members & stakeholder The community recognized cyclone & flood as natural barrier for their community. The location is associated with the sea belt of Bay of Bangal & River Sungu. During the rainy seasons due to over shower the villages are covered full of water.

 

Union level disaster committee is formed but the committee is not capacitated to make a effective role during disaster time. Due to undeveloped transportation barrier community faced disaster affects in large scale.  Local level coordination is not visible. There is no action on pre-preparation level, not well equipped action during disaster & no finding exploration after getting disaster lesson learned.

4 Discussion on existing risk reduction activities & inclusion risk governance ·         Increasing of community capacity

·         Perfect coordination plan among the bodies.

·         Building more accountability of respective department.

·         Infrastructural development specially barrage.

·         Youth involvement

·         A medical health support team could be developed linking with Upazilla.

Moreover the community is less aware where as household dusts are thrown anywhere. They are not aware about using of dustbin.

As mentioned social disaster destroying hilly places by the local powerful persons is one of the social disasters they mentioned. The participants are realizing that its harmful for nature. During rainy seasons over flow of water makes us challenging but sometimes hills gives us support for like cyclone.

2 Discussion of Validate findings As sharing the findings of natural disaster most of the participants are agreed the issues of land slide. But peoples are not fall in die due to land slide because of the sail of the hill is sand. So the community mentioned wall damages often cause for peoples die who lives down stare of hill. Wall is built as making border of the hill at Lalkhan bazar area.

As social disaster the participants are mentioned drug addition of youth & adolescent & violence o0ccured by the adolescent & youth groups locally.

From a long time Moti Jharna under 14 no city corporation ward is a place of illegal drug business. The local leaders tried hard to stop illegal drug business. Many times, they gave written objection to the police but the illegal drug dealers are very powerful & they have already managed some dishonest officers in the police/authority.
